Paul Cross

Algorithms coach averages. I coach you.

Training apps and AI-generated plans are built from averages, and they can’t see the rest of your life. For over 30 years I’ve built training around the individual athlete: your body, your goals, your schedule, how you’re wired. Then I adjust it as life happens. Every plan is written and managed by me, a human coach.

"Race success is so much more than workouts accomplished."
Peter Reid, 3-Time Ironman World Champion
"I observed how he adapts his approach to each athlete based on their unique needs."
Christine Fletcher, Founder, Brite Coaching
"Rather than simply giving me a conventional training plan, he took the time to personalize my training."
Morgan van Vliet, Top Age-Group Triathlete

Structured. Adaptive. Built around you

How I Coach

Maybe you've followed plans that fell apart the first time work got busy. Maybe you have more data than ever and less certainty about what it means. Or you've plateaued and can't figure out why. That's the gap I fill, through two core services.Program Design & Management — A structured, periodized training plan built around your goals, schedule, and life. Your plan and your coaching come as one: I write it, watch how you respond, and adjust it week by week, with accountability built in from day one.Consultation — Hourly, focused sessions on a specific challenge — technique, heart rate and training zones, fueling and nutrition, race strategy, or anything else you're stuck on. No ongoing commitment required, just expert input when you need it.

Who This Is For

I coach swimming, cycling, running, and triathlon, each at a high level. Few athletes ever get one coach with that depth across every discipline. What matters most is that you're driven and curious, someone who wants to be an active participant in their own progress. This works whether you're training for your first race or chasing a personal best.

Experience You won't find anywhere else

About Paul

Coaching results come from four things: a natural instinct for reading people, deep knowledge of the sports themselves, wide and varied hands-on coaching experience, and a track record that proves it works. Most coaches have one or two of these. Very few have all four.I've spent over 30 years building exactly that. A natural read on people that I later sharpened with formal study of personality frameworks like MBTI, DISC, and the VIA Survey of Character Strengths. A physiology background from McGill. Coaching experience across running, cycling, swimming, and triathlon — not just one discipline — sometimes managing programs for 20 individual athletes at once. And results: athletes who've reached goals they didn't think were possible, coached by someone who was doing this before full-time endurance coaching was even common.Being a great athlete doesn't automatically make someone a great coach. They're different skills entirely — one is about performing, the other is about seeing, understanding, and guiding someone else's performance. There's no substitute for that kind of experience, earned only by coaching athletes over years, through their setbacks and breakthroughs. There aren't any real secrets in these sports — just many different paths, and plenty of ways to get lost in the maze. I exist to help you navigate it: to choose the best route for your specific goals and life, and to point out paths you might not know exist.

Don't Just Take My Word For It

What Athletes Say

Paul helped me get started on my triathlon journey at a time when I was trying to break into a new sport while already leading a very full life.Coming from a strong swimming background, I was very comfortable in the pool, but open water swimming was completely new to me. I was also a beginner cyclist and a novice runner—so let’s just say there was a lot of work to be done! What I appreciated most about Paul’s coaching was his ability to really get a read on me as an athlete and help me clarify my goals. Rather than simply giving me a conventional training plan, he took the time to personalize my training based on my strengths, weaknesses, and goals. He was also always willing to patiently answer my questions—and I had many! That approach paid off. In my very first triathlon, I was the first woman out of the water overall and went on to finish 2nd in my age group!Paul’s coaching also helped me realize what I’m capable of. That confidence has translated beyond triathlon and into other areas of my life as well. My triathlon journey is just getting started, and I’m excited to see where it takes me!— Morgan van Vliet, Top Age-Group Triathlete

"I have known Paul for over 30 years. He was the guy to beat on the Quebec triathlon circuit before we became teammates and friends, and Paul became the go-to guy for triathlon coaching. He has always been an incredible sober second thought on how to achieve success on and off the triathlon circuit. Paul is a strong believer in life balance to achieve success — race success is so much more than workouts accomplished."— Peter Reid, 3-Time Ironman World Champion

"As a professional triathlete and multisports athlete for the past 15 years, I have interacted with a wide variety of endurance training experts. Paul Cross sets a new standard for the industry... I observed how he adapts his approach to each athlete based on their unique needs."— Christine Fletcher, Founder, Brite Coaching; 42-Time Ironman Finisher, 7x Hawaii Ironman World Championships

"Paul was fantastic in assisting me through the ups and downs of training for an Ironman... Try him out - He's the best."— Geoffrey Glotman, President, Glotman Simpson Group of Companies; Founder, Glotman·Simpson Cycling Club

"I was getting bored with my routine as a recreational runner and wanted to try new things and improve my overall fitness. Paul provided an unending variety of workouts designed to fit within the framework of my busy life and gradually build my skill and endurance level in each of the disciplines. For a beginner, the feedback and education of the athlete are just as important as the workouts being prescribed. I was inspired to go further, faster and try new things and I have never been so fit in my life!"— Shannon M., Beginner Triathlete; Full-Time Job, Full-Time Mom, Full-Time Wife
